How to use crop image
Cropping removes outer parts of an image instead of stretching what remains. Choose one of the available ratios and move the crop across the source using horizontal and vertical controls. The preview shows the area being kept. Use Resize Image afterward when the cropped shape also needs specific pixel dimensions.
- Select an image with enough surrounding space for the crop you want.
- Choose Square 1:1, Portrait 7:9, Landscape 4:3, Wide 16:9 or Original ratio.
- Move the horizontal and vertical position sliders and inspect the live crop.
- Choose an output format, process and check the cropped pixels before download.
A practical example
A square crop from a 1,200 × 1,600 portrait keeps a 1,200 × 1,200 region. The vertical control chooses how the 400 excluded pixels are distributed above and below the retained square. The subject is not stretched.
Supported files and limitations
- The current ratio choices are fixed presets plus the original ratio; there is no arbitrary ratio-entry or freehand crop box.
- A crop cannot add missing content beyond the original boundaries.
- The output is re-encoded. JPEG may lose information; choosing PNG does not recover detail already missing from a JPEG source.
Troubleshooting
Why does one position slider appear to do nothing?
A crop only moves along an axis with spare pixels. If the chosen crop already spans the full source width, there is no horizontal room to move it.
How do I get a square of exactly 300 × 300 pixels?
First make a square crop, then resize it to 300 × 300. This preserves the intended shape without stretching.
Questions about crop image
Is cropping the same as resizing?
No. Cropping removes surrounding content. Resizing changes the pixel grid of the selected whole image.
Can I draw an arbitrary crop rectangle?
Not in this release. Use the listed ratios and position controls; the live preview shows the retained region.
Does the original-ratio choice remove pixels?
It retains the original shape and can use the full source region. Select another ratio when you need a differently shaped crop.
Can a transparent background remain transparent?
Choose PNG or WebP output. JPEG output flattens transparent pixels onto white.
