How to use resize image

Pixel dimensions describe the grid of an image, while file bytes describe its encoded storage. This resizer is for a required width and height: keep the aspect-ratio lock to avoid stretching, or deliberately turn it off for an exact canvas shape. After resizing, check file bytes separately because the format and encoding also affect size.

  1. Select the image and read its current dimensions.
  2. With aspect-ratio lock on, change width or height and let the other value follow the source proportions.
  3. Turn the lock off only when you intentionally want both entered dimensions, then choose JPG, PNG or WebP.
  4. Process, inspect proportions and read the output pixel dimensions and bytes.

A practical example

A 1,200 × 1,600 portrait has a 3:4 aspect ratio. Setting width to 360 pixels with the lock on produces 360 × 480. Forcing it into 360 × 360 with the lock off stretches the image; use a square crop first if you want a square without distortion.

Supported files and limitations

  • Output is limited to 10,000 pixels per side and 32 megapixels overall; source decoding is separately bounded.
  • Increasing pixel dimensions does not recover sharper detail from a small source.
  • This is not a byte-target tool, background remover or metadata-preserving editor.

Troubleshooting

Why does the other dimension keep changing?

Aspect-ratio lock is on. That keeps the source proportions. Switch it off only if stretching into the exact shape is intended.

The pixels are correct but the file is too large. What next?

Use a compatible compression or exact-KB workflow afterward, then check that its resulting pixels still meet the requirement.

Questions about resize image

How do I avoid a stretched face or logo?

Keep the aspect-ratio lock on. If the target shape differs, crop to that shape first rather than forcing both dimensions.

Can I enter inches or millimetres?

This resizer uses pixels. Print size needs an intended print density and printer settings; pixel dimensions alone are not an embedded DPI guarantee.

Will the output be exactly the byte size I need?

No. Width and height are separate from encoded bytes. Inspect the result size or use a dedicated KB target afterward.

Which format should I select for a transparent graphic?

PNG and WebP can retain transparent pixels. JPG output uses a white background.
