How to use extract pdf pages
Extraction creates one new document from your listed pages. Use single page numbers or ascending ranges separated by commas. The order you type is the output order; repeated selections repeat pages rather than being silently removed. This makes it different from cutting a PDF once into two parts.
- Select an ordinary unlocked PDF and identify its total page count.
- Enter page numbers/ranges such as 1-3,5, or 3,1 when a different order is intended.
- Check for repeated pages, then process the selection.
- Open the single downloaded PDF and verify the resulting page order and count.
A practical example
For a six-page source, entering 3,1-2,3 creates four pages in the order 3,1,2,3. The final 3 is a deliberate duplicate. A range such as 5-2 or page 7 is invalid for that source.
Supported files and limitations
- Ranges must ascend and refer to existing pages. The selection is limited to 500 output pages, including repeated pages.
- This copies whole pages, not a crop of text or pictures within one page.
- Encrypted, signed or detected advanced-feature PDFs are not rewritten. A standard page-copy output is not a signature-preserving edit.
Troubleshooting
Why did the same page appear twice?
It was selected twice, possibly once as a number and once within a range. Remove the repeated occurrence if you only want one copy.
Why is a range like 5-2 invalid?
Ranges must go from the smaller page number to the larger one. List individual numbers in your desired order if you want to rearrange supported pages.
Questions about extract pdf pages
Are pages automatically sorted or deduplicated?
No. Listed order is preserved, and repeated page numbers create repeated output pages.
What does 1-3,5 mean?
It selects pages 1, 2, 3 and 5 in that order. Page numbering starts at 1.
Can I extract a region inside one PDF page?
No. This tool copies complete selected pages. It is not a PDF crop or redaction editor.
Will the extracted PDF always be smaller?
Not necessarily. Shared resources and new document structure affect size; the result reports actual bytes rather than a promised saving.
